Find out what this tradition means and how it has survived to this day.
The time has come when many of us like to decorate our home with Christmas motifs, and one of the favorite decorations is the Christmas tree. This can not miss the lights, the spheres, and at its tip, a beautiful luminous star.
But have you ever wondered why we put a star on top of the tree? Here we tell you so that you share it with your little ones and satisfy their curiosity:
The star is a guide
The Biblical story tells that it was a star that guided the Three Kings to the birthplace of the Child Jesus. This is the same star that we put on the tree.
In ancient times, the tree was the symbol of Paradise, which was also decorated with red apples, the forbidden fruit. For this reason, the star is a guide symbol towards Paradise, represented by the tree.
It wasn’t always a star
These firs were placed on the porches of the stars, but instead of a star, they placed a candle at the top. However, they changed this light to that of a golden star, because accidents and fires were common.
As time went by, each family put the Christmas tree in their own home, starting with the spheres and, at the end of the decoration, the smallest member of the family was asked to put the star on its tip.
