It’s been eight years since Hideo Kojima announced and released the pt-demo during Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and the experience is still well remembered by fans of Kojima, Silent Hill, and horror games in general. However, Hideo Kojima admits to underestimating players back then, as he didn’t think the demo would be resolved so soon.
Yesterday marked 8 years since the release of the PT demo on PlayStation 4, and for this reason Hideo Kojima shared a message on his Twitter account recalling his feeling of defeat a few days after presenting the demo. According to Kojima, his team at Kojima Productions had calculated that it would take players about two months to solve all the mysteries.

Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima thought it would take players a couple of months to figure out the PT demo because his team had put so many layers of mechanics into it that it could only be solved with the cooperation of many players. However, the demo was finished in just two days.
Hideo Kojima says that the fact that players were able to solve the PT demo in just two days gave him a feeling of defeat, as he was asked about it on a talk show with Geoff Keighley during that same gamescom. The reward for those who finished the PT demo was to be able to see the first teaser for Silent Hills, the game that Hideo Kojima was making with Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus.
The first person to finish the PT demo on PlayStation 4 eight years ago was Soapy Warpig, who was streaming for three people when she made it to the end of the demo and became the first player to watch the Sillent Hills trailer, which was eventually canceled by Konami.
