In December 2017 accused Apple of slowing down iPhones older. At the time this accusation argued the planned obsolescence, however, later the company accepted this practice, but under the argument of taking care of the user experience.
The Cupertino company mentioned that older iPhones could experience problems with degraded batteries that could cause occasional blackouts, hence slowing down performance to avoid these problems.
The decision generated all kinds of positions among users, for which the company faced several lawsuits in which it paid more than 500 million dollars in the United States, while in countries like France the payment was 25 million euros.
However, what is striking is that users on Reddit reported that owners of older iPhones can avoid the slowdown that Apple establishes on phones just by changing regions.
Performance testing found that just applying the region change resulted in a noticeable improvement.
The reason for the above is because the class action lawsuit against the company for the slowdown forced Apple to deactivate this function by default in the European country.
However, this is not the only way to overcome this slowdown, since from iOS 11.3 Apple allows each user to decide if they want to activate or deactivate the slowdown on their device.
If you want to activate or deactivate it, you just have to go to Settings> Battery> Maximum performance capacity. With this the iPhone will not be slowed down, however, Apple warns that phones with more depleted batteries may experience unexpected reboots.
