Unfortunately, Halloween Ends It was not the closure that fans expected for the longstanding hatred between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. For whatever reason, the director and writing team decided that the film was not going to focus on the confrontation of these two characters, but to introduce, almost out of nowhere, a new character to represent Myers’ influence on Haddonfield. The decision was repudiated by the vast majority of fans. And now it is the director of the tape, David Gordon Green, who explains his decision.
In interview with TVLineGreen clarified that the film was always intended to be completely like its predecessors. Was it the best decision?
“We had to decide how we wanted to close these characters. We never considered making a movie about Laurie and Michael. How did we make it not just a nice, neat nod to a franchise? The concept that it should be some kind of vital showdown between the two never crossed our minds. I wanted to see where it would go. He wanted one to win and one to lose. But we were always more ambitious with that.”
Curiously, although the creative team did not think of making this last tape a confrontation, the marketing went for the opposite. Even on the posters Halloween Ends They clearly anticipate a movie based on the final battle between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers. Unfortunately, that battle doesn’t last more than 5 minutesAnd by that point in the film, many already felt betrayed by the way one of horror’s most iconic villains was treated.
As if that were not enough, some fans of the tape took the time to calculate how many minutes the villain appears in the last film of the saga. And the result was disappointing for many: just 10 minutes. Unfortunately, the rejection of the fans has already been noted. Halloween Ends it debuted with $40 million at the US box office, being the worst result of the new trilogy. Nevertheless, in its second weekend it fell 80%being one of the biggest falls in the history of cinema.
You like me Halloween Ends? How would you have preferred the final showdown between Laurie Strode and Michael Myers?
John Joseph Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movies.
