An adventure in the depths of the sea awaits us. In a few weeks, the remake live action of The little Mermaid it will finally reach movie screens with a cast made up of Halle Bailey, Javier Bardem, Melissa McCarthy, among others.
Within this cast, an addition that has given something to talk about is that of Jonah Hauer King, who will play Eric, a young prince who falls in love with Ariel, the mermaid protagonist, after she saves him from drowning. Why is he talking about his participation in the tape? Because when the project was in the early stages of development there was talk that it would be Harry Styles who assumed the role, although this, evidently, did not happen.
Although we will not see Harry Styles as Prince Eric, the director of the upcoming adaptation, Rob Marshall, recently confirmed that he did hold talks with the actor and singer to try to integrate him into the cast. However, it was Styles himself who rejected the proposal.
This was recalled by Marshall during an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
“We met with him. He was charming. A wonderful subject. But in the end, he really felt that he wanted to go away and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were a little bit darker.”
In this way, the director revealed the reason why the Grammy-winning interpreter preferred not to be part of the musical production. And the truth is that he is right, because the film productions in which Styles has participated have more dramatic plots. Examples of this are Do not worry honey and mypoliceman.
At another point in the talk, the filmmaker reflected on the decision of the former member of one directionsaying:
“A lot of young musicians like Harry are trying to break through and don’t necessarily want to be seen as singers. That’s why he wanted to do something that didn’t belong to the musical genre, to broaden his horizons. It was a fun idea to play with, but in the end, I always think that things happen for a reason. I’m very happy to have two new young people in the film.”
We will not see Harry Styles as Prince Eric. But it will be exciting to see Hauer-King make the role his own. The little Mermaid is scheduled to arrive in Mexican theaters for the next May 25, 2023. Find out everything about the tape HERE.
