In 2019, Brie Larson showed that audiences were eager to meet Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. With her first film, the character conquered millions of viewers around the world and became a box office success. But a lot has happened (inside and outside the MCU) in the almost 5 years of waiting between Captain Marvel and its sequel, The Marvels. The scale is getting bigger, the confrontations are more impactful, and having the same old characters is no longer an option. Thus, The Marvels It brought together a top-notch cast, with already known heroes, and new villains or possible allies that could change the future of this cinematic universe.
Here we introduce you to the main characters of the film directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman).
Brie Larson – Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel)
Before becoming an incredibly powerful hero, Carol Danvers was a pilot in the Armed Forces. Her DNA is altered thanks to an accident that gives her superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and to absorb and project energy thanks to her powers. She met Nick Fury in the 1990s, when she too was involved in a conflict with the Skrulls. After her arrival in the battle against Thanos of Avengers: EndgameCarol is involved in a new confrontation: her powers have become intertwined with those of Monica Rambeau, daughter of her best friend María, and Ms. Marvel, a young heroine who has not yet discovered her full potential.
In addition to participating in the MCU, Larson has gained recognition thanks to her participation in projects such as The room (for which he won an Oscar), Kong: Skull Islandand chemistry lessonshis most recent series.

Teyonah Parris – Monica Rambeau
Maria Rambeau’s daughter, Carol Danvers’ best friend before becoming Captain Marvel. She met her protagonist in her first film, whom she called “aunt” because of the closeness she had with her mother. Carol left Earth and did not return for many years, something that caused a slight resentment in Monica. In WandaVision She gained her power, manipulating the wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum, and this will be the first time we see her reach her full potential. Besides, The Marvels represents the reunion with his “Aunt Carol”. Will they be able to leave the past behind in order to save the universe?
Teyonah Parris has appeared in productions such as If the colony could talk, Tyrone’s cloneand the most recent version of Candymanwhere he also worked under the direction of Nia DaCosta.
Iman Vellani – Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel)
Without a doubt, the superheroine who feels the most fascination with the MCU. And also, the first official mutant of the franchise. Thanks to the fact that she already had her own series on Disney Plus, the character has some development. She obtained her powers thanks to a mysterious bracelet that she found in the basement of her house, and it gave her the ability to generate a kind of cosmic energy field around her, in addition to modifying the size and power of her limbs. She’s a Captain Marvel fan, so fighting alongside her to stop Dar-Benn is literally the adventure of a lifetime for her.
Iman Vellani was born in Pakistan, but when she was one year old she arrived in Canada, where she spent her entire childhood and adolescence. His filmography so far includes playing the heroine in different MCU productions.
Zawe Ashton – Dar-Benn
In the comics, Dar-Benn is a Kree general who, tired of Foulup’s rule, decides to build a robot version of the Silver Surfer to finish him off and attribute his death to the Skrulls. In The Marvels, Dar-Benn is a Kree with a weapon similar to the one Ronan the Accuser carried in Guardians of the Galaxy. He owes an outstanding debt to Carol Danvers, who took “everything” from him, and so he seeks revenge by destroying the planets she has protected from her. He can absorb the powers of Carol, Monica and Kamala, so taking her down seems like an impossible mission. Apparently, he is responsible for a multiversal incursion that can bring big problems for the future of the MCU.
Zawe Ashton, the British actress who plays her, has participated in films such as Velvet Buzzsaw, Nocturnal Animals and Greta. She is a partner of Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki in the same universe, and gave him great advice to bring this villain to life:
“He told me: ‘What you put into Marvel is what you get back.’ If you go into this with an open heart, a great ethic, and just want to give an amazing experience to the fans, you’ll have an amazing experience on sets.’ It really strengthened me in that sense,” she commented in an interview for Entertainment Weekly.
Samuel L. Jackson – Nick Fury
The legendary creator of the “Avengers Initiative” is back with The Marvels. However, his presence goes beyond being part of SHIELD, as he is a great friend to Carol Danvers. In this film, Fury will be the director of SABER, an aerospace defense system that will serve as the planet’s defense against the discovery of a new galaxy. He will be a fundamental part of understanding how Carol, Monica and Kamala’s powers ended up tangled.
In addition to his participation in the MCU, Samuel L. Jackson is remembered for his participation in films such as Violent Times, Django Unchained, The 8 Most Hated and The protected.

Park Seo-Joon – Prince Yan
Nobody like this charismatic prince to lead the planet Aladna. Furthermore, everything indicates that he will become an important ally for Carol Danvers. In the original comics, Aladna has a rule that men must be chosen by women to join in marriage. The mutant Lila is the one who chooses him, although with the intention of taking the throne and power of the planet from her. That’s when Carol intervenes and confronts her to free him.
Park Seo-Joon is a star of Korean dramas, whose greatest hits include What’s wrong with Secretary Kim? and Itaewon Class. He also had a brief participation in Parasitesthe winner of the Oscar for Best Picture in 2020.
Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur and Saagar Shaikh – Muneeba, Yusuf and Aamir Khan
Kamala’s mother, father, and brother. This trio of peculiar characters debuted in Ms. Marvel, and represented, for many, one of the strongest points of the series. The dynamic of the characters with the novel heroine will once again be an important part of the film, or at least that is how it has been shown in some promotional clips.
Muneeba has a strict character, which sometimes causes her to clash with Kamala; Likewise, she has strong roots in her culture of origin. Yusuf is more affectionate and closer to Kamala, he drives her to fulfill her dreams, and in the film he can be vital in motivating her daughter’s new fight. Aaamir, for his part, functions as the conciliator when there are family conflicts and as Kamala’s support.
Nemo and Tango – Goose
This peculiar feline, which actually belongs to the Flerken species, was one of the most outstanding elements in Captain Marvel. It originally belonged to Mar-Vell (Annette Bening), but Carol and Nock Fury “adopted” it while searching for his laboratory. Additionally, she is to blame for Fury’s left eye being torn and covered with an eyepatch. She can store things in her belly (like enemies or the Tesseract), and has superior intelligence. From what we see in some scenes in the trailer, it seems that Goose will join more Flerkens to help Carol, Monica and Kamala in their fight against Dar-Benn.
In the first film, Goose was played by an orange cat named Reggie, but since the sequel was filmed in the United Kingdom, two felines had to be used: an 11-year-old named Tango, and a 4-year-old named Nemo. Ironically, Brie Larson, the film’s protagonist, and the one who spends the most time with Goose, is allergic to cats.
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty taste? Low-budget horror films.
