The truth is that beyond the position, the important thing is to keep abreast of the most recent innovations because in health information is updated every day.
What is the position of Mexican doctors?
To better understand this point, in 2022 the Medscape portal published the results of the work Points of view of doctors on current social problems: Mexico. This is a large-scale survey in which more than a thousand doctors from more than 35 specialties from all over the country participated.
One of the questions the doctors were asked was their position on abortion. What was obtained was that 35% are in favor, but only when the mother’s health is at risk or when it involves rape or incest.
Slightly below, with 31%, are those who support this practice but only during the first trimester of pregnancy. While 16% are those who support abortion and believe that all women should be able to access one regardless of the reason or trimester of pregnancy.
WHO launches mobile app for doctors on abortion
For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) unveiled a new digital tool exclusively for health personnel. His name is WHO CAC Tool and has the objective of providing the most up-to-date information based on scientific evidence about abortion.
This application takes the individual characteristics of patients and generates specific evaluations or recommendations for each one. The tool guides clinicians through assessing potential risks and also provides checklists and more context to help manage cases. With respect to doctors, it seeks to minimize possible errors in the provision of the service.
A very important point that must be made clear is that this new app does not seek to promote or stop abortion. Its function is to offer up-to-date information that all health professionals should know. In the end, everyone can make a free decision based on their beliefs and the legal regulations of their country.
This new tool recognizes the crucial importance of supporting health workers in providing essential abortion and post-abortion care. The app also incorporates resources relevant to abortion care provision, including WHO guidelines, publications, evidence summaries, and infographics.
For now, WHO CAC Tool is free and available to Manzana and Google play.
