The trailer for ‘Eternals’ continues to leave us the hype with the clouds for several reasons. One of them is the appearance of a pair of enigmatic figures. The lightest is a bust giant with what appear to be six eyes. Immediately speculation has arisen about who he is, even the odd voice, erroneous, pointed to the mythical Galactus. Nothing is further from reality.
Although it would be quite good if we met the Eater of Worlds himself, before us is a Heavenly. Not just any one, since by its appearance we can deduce that it is Eson the Seeker, one of the longest-lived members of the cosmic race … or at least as far as Earth is concerned.
Created by Jack Kirby, this cosmic entity would have been coming and going to our planet for a million years (as part of the first host), being one of the participants in the creation of The Eternals. Otherwise not much is known about Eson except that he belongs to the delegation, presided over by Arishem the judge, who is in charge of judging whether the Earth is worthy or not to survive.
The judges of the Earth
Belonging to the first, third and fourth hosts, perhaps one of his most extensive adventures within the Marvel Universe occurs on the pages of Mark Gruenwald’s Thor, with the Asgardian pantheon (and elsewhere) confronting these beings. It is an imposing being, about 600 meters high and incalculable powers and strength.s. Normal that even the Eternals have respect for him.
We don’t know exactly what plans Chloé Zhao (and Marvel) have with Eson and the rest of Celestials, but It is not the first time that we meet these beings. In ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ itself, Knowhere is built inside one’s skull; and in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 ‘we would discover that Ego is part of this race, which indicates that not all of them are like those we have seen for decades in the comics.
Speaking of comics, Eson and company have recently been seen in the stage of ‘The Avengers’ by Jason Aaron, whose first saga (drawn by Ed McGuinnes) showed us the fall of his host at the hand of the dark Celestials in a story that brought us the Avengers from a million years ago.
The Progenitor?
Speaking of this saga, what appears to be another Celestial also appears in the trailer. Its green appearance makes us think that it is The Progenitor, a Celestial Alpha who fell dying to Earth four billion years ago with a strange infection called the Horde. According to Loki’s account, its decomposition gave a magic spark to the cocktail of the primordial broth, causing the appearance of people with superpowers.
Origins and events of the Marvel Universe apart, I really want to see what the Chinese filmmaker has done with one of the richest corners in concepts of the publisher’s comics.
