The season halloweenesca officially kicks off with the Horror Classics cycle that will be offered in Cinemex theaters. The chain has the habit of launching special and commemorative cycles of different themes. Of course one of horror could not be missing during the most chilling month of all.
The classics that will light up the Cinemex screens range from the -for many- «the most terrifying movie of all time»; to a teen horror classic that kicked off the sagas of slashers. Of course we talk about The Exorcist Y Nightmare on Hell Street. But they will also complete the offer Poltergeist: Diabolical Games, the thing from the other world Y Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The selection of course is made up of film classics of the genre. But above all they are a sample of the different currents and themes that in past decades explored the genre in the search to scare the viewer. All of them carry a heritage that is reflected to this day, so seeing these horror classics fill theaters will undoubtedly be a very special moment.
The appointment will begin on Thursday, October 6 and will probably remain on their billboards throughout the month of October. Cinemex has not yet released exact details of the release of these films from its billboards. In the meantime, we will tell you a little about each one below.
the thing from the other world (1982)
Film directed by master John Carpenter about a group of explorers located in Antarctica, who must face an entity from another planet. Its perpetrator has the ability to take on the appearance of his victims, so no one can really trust his partner. Packed with suffocating suspense and pioneering visual effects of its time, the thing from the other world is one of the coolest mixes between horror and science fiction.
The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist, directed by William Friedkin, was probably the work that gave horror movies a new lease of life. Suddenly the in-depth treatment of its history, the performances of the cast and some amazing visual effects showed that a story of possessions, was to be taken seriously. The classic that paralyzed a generation (and continues to do so) will return to theaters with its extended version loaded with more daring and terrifying sequences.
Poltergeist: Diabolical Games (1982)
A conventional American family begins to experience paranormal activity in their new house located in a newly opened subdivision. At first things change places and chairs move so it seems like fun. However, everything changes when the youngest of the family disappears and is imprisoned in another plane of reality. With the help of paranormal experts they must rescue the little girl and flee before being consumed by darkness. This movie has Spielberg branding all over it, but either way it’s more of a terrifying experience than it is fun. It was produced by the legendary director and directed by Tobe Hooper.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
The re-release of this film takes place within the framework of its 30th anniversary. Reason why it reaches the screens with a new restoration in 4K and with an improved sound in Atmos format. It is probably one of the most faithful adaptations of the literary classic written by Stoker and the maximum expression of vampirism. Count Dracula should cross the sea of eternity to meet the love of his life again in a new reincarnated life. But perhaps it will be too late. The earl has given himself completely over to the dark. Directed by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola and with one of the best performances by Gary Oldman.
Nightmare on Hell Street (1984)
The last of the horror classics to return to theaters is the story of Freddy Krueger. At this point there is not much to say that is not already known about this film. It is about a group of teenagers who must face a diabolical entity that harasses them through dreams. In his nightmares, the evil Krueger plays with his mind until he destroys and murders them in the real world. It is one of the most influential films of the genre. slasher and worthy of a place in this cycle.
