Chile and Mexico, in the Latin American region, are the countries most at risk of running out of water, according to the 2020 Ecological Threat Register report.
The problem of water scarcity has been an alert in various parts of the world for years, which is why all kinds of campaigns have been carried out in order to call on the world population to take care of the vital liquid.
Today, the situation is even more alarming, because according to the data presented in the 2020 Ecological Threat RegisterSome 2.6 billion people around the world live in countries that are most at risk of running out of water, which is why, even by 2040, this figure could rise to 5.4 billion.
As you can see from the map below, Southeast Asia and the Middle East and North Africa region are especially, but not exclusively, exposed to water scarcity. In Latin America, Chile and Mexico are the countries with the highest vulnerability to water stress. In addition to having vast desert territories, the water crisis has become evident given the strong demand that exists in domestic, industrial and agricultural consumption of available water.
In Europe, Greece and Spain are the States in which the population is most exposed to this environmental problem, consuming between 40% and 80% of the total water resources available to them each year.
