Tony Stark has made dozens of Iron Man suits, but his short-lived Iron Man armor adamantium It wasn’t one of the Avenger’s best creations.
Tony Stark is famous for his amount of armor. Many of them have been created for specific purposes, from his Hulkbuster and Thorbuster suits to the short-lived Project Argonaut. Of all Tony’s efforts, Project Argonaut might have been the most ambitious, as it provided him with a fleet of armor that he could control through his Extremis powers.
Shortly after being infused with a modified version of the Extremis virus, Tony Stark began developing a series of armor, each adapted with a goal. One of them was the Argonaut Battle Suit, which was partially constructed of the most indestructible metal in the Marvel Universe, the adamantium.
Comic book plot Iron Man # 7
When these suits first appeared in Iron Man # 7 2006, written by Daniel knauf, Charles Knauf Y Patrick Zircher, Tony was still shocked at having killed the terrorist Mallen, endowed with Extremis. Something that, obviously, was not a good thing. Iron Man had even become willing to temporarily stop the heart of the Crimson Dynamo during a fight, which led to a small confrontation with Captain America over his new attitude. Tony’s ease of killing started the conflict between the two. Things got worse when someone turned the Argonaut suits into his personal army without him knowing.
When seen fleeing the scene of the murder, Tony quickly becomes the prime suspect in the recent along with other murders. Surprisingly, not even Tony remembers the time when he was apparently committing these horrible crimes, but the evidence is enough for Nick Fury to call for his immediate arrest. Fortunately, he turns himself in before anyone gets hurt, but that doesn’t stop him from becoming an unintentional killer once again. The Sentinel does not lose sight of him. He didn’t understand what was going on, at least not until he caught up with Ho Yinsen’s son. It turns out that the son of Tony’s former mentor was the mastermind behind hacking the armors, he uses them to carry out his crimes. In those moments with Stark in the suit but totally unconscious.
Once the real culprit is arrested, a SHIELD sniper who eliminates the young man, causes dozens of Iron Man suits to come to life and start wreaking havoc. This included the Argonauts, and the costume of adamantium Tony proved to be more than capable of cutting anything. After going rogue, the Battle Argonaut headed to Russia to cause as much chaos as possible by attacking Moscow’s nuclear reactors. Luckily, the original was able to destroy him before that happened, crushing him with the anti-metal armor from one of his suits.
His armor of adamantium it has not been seen since, apart from a silhouetted plane in the Invincible Iron Man # 11 2016 of Brian Michael Bendis Y Mike Deodato Jr.. Surely there will be a deeper good reason. Despite its usual use in the Wolverine setting in the Marvel Universe, the adamantium it’s not exactly a great source, and even Tony Stark’s great wealth can’t make up for it. Furthermore, their technology and weaponry have only evolved over time. Material durability isn’t the only thing you need on the battlefield. On the other hand, he could have used it during his last confrontations with Korvac. There is little chance that he will appear again, although it would not be an inconvenience if he would be part of Tony’s projects again.
