Go ahead, we are facing a very new technology with certain parallels with 5G. The similarities between both technologies happen because the coverage is scarce, or at least much more limited than that of services such as 4G or 300, 600 or 1 Gbps fiber. This implies that we will only be able to contract and enjoy the service in a few places, although by 2025, it should be available in the practically all of our country (both 5G and XGSPON networks for 10 Gbps).
Digi took the first hit with its 10 Gb PRO-DIGI FIBER
September 8, 2021 was the day chosen by the Romanian operator Digi to launch PRO-DIGI, the first 10 Gbps fiber that can be hired in Spain (individuals). It is based on XGS-PON with speeds of up to 10 Gbps, although the reality is that we will receive slightly more than 8 Gbps (this will happen in all operators). This is accompanied by a new router Zyxel AX7501-B0, with WiFi 6 and WPA3 that includes a 10 Gbps Ethernet port, the only one that will allow us to make the most of this technology.
When can you hire it?
From September 9 it is available to hire.
How can it be contracted?
On the web and in stores, although the latter has not been confirmed.
Where can it be contracted?
The operator speaks of “own coverage areas in the Community of Madrid”.
How much?
The price is 30 euros per month, being able to combine it with mobile lines and other services.
Orange took a few more days, but has more coverage
On September 28, Orange became the second operator to launch 10 Gbps in the residential segment. The operator has activated its XGSPON network in Spain in five cities, thus being the company with the most coverage of this technology. Again, we will have special equipment with WiFi 6 to take full advantage of this technology. Not all clients will be able to access the new modality.
When can you hire it?
Although it was launched this week, it can be hired from October 7.
How can it be contracted?
Current customers with compatible rates will be able to improve their speed and new ones as long as they contract one of the compatible packages.
Where can it be contracted?
We have 10 Gbps XGSPON coverage in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia and Zaragoza.
How much?
The price of uploading to 10 Gbps will be 10 euros more per month in the Love Total Plus and Love Total Plus 4 rates. In the case of professionals, it will be available in Love Empresa 3 and 5. The prices will be:
And what about Movistar, Vodafone or Yoigo?
Well, it is a difficult question to answer. The truth is since 3 years ago We are promised, in the case of Movistar, that the arrival of XGSPON is near. However, time passes and we have no news. From what we have been able to know, we should not expect an immediate response to the order from Orange and Digi Mobil, but neither can we rule it out due to the changing market.
The reality is to enjoy this technology, Movistar would need to launch the router xHGU And, from what is known to this day, the operator works on a model similar to the current one, but with support for WiFi 6. That is, this Smart WiFi 6 model would not support the XGSPON networks necessary to offer 10 Gbps.
On Vodafone the reality is that there is nothing to tell. Their HFC cable network does not give much more, nor do they consider the possibility of an update to the DOCSIS standard due to its high cost. In fact, the possibility has sounded that this network will be sold to Onivia (a wholesale operator) or even closed (and a large agreement will be reached with Movistar to use its FTTH network).
Finally, we can’t expect too much from MoreMobile (Yoigo) in the short term, although they are also specialists in surprising. However, accustomed to “scoring so much” of being the first in something, they will not be able to do it with 10 Gbps fiber and, given the low need for this speed in the domestic market, their plans will depend on what is being demanded. the market. We do not know if they can extend the agreement with Orange to access this modality.
