A large package of updates has recently arrived at WhatsApp, which remains the number 1 instant messaging app in the world. These updates came with the focus on some issues that had been discussed for a long time in the community and among users.
For their part, the developers of the Meta-owned app have made it clear that they are spending more time than ever on improving user experience, platform flexibility, and chat and account security, so new Updates are coming soon, including one that won’t allow you to take screenshots of certain things.
Soon you will not be able to take screenshots of the contents of a single view on WhatsApp
emoji, additional controls for group chat managers, and secure chats were some of the features that were added, expanded, or changed during the latest updates, but people with access to the beta have revealed that the new feature blocking screenshots of screens works on iOS and Android.
This follows what is already established by other apps such as Google Play, which does not allow you to take screenshots in some of its areas, this has been implemented in some mobile banking applications for years as a security measure and this would be the reason to add it to WhatsApp.
The search for more security and privacy seems to be the most important thing for the developer team, who plan this measure for the content, be it photos or videos that are sent to be seen only once, thus maintaining the essence of said function and possible leaks.
Does WhatsApp follow in the footsteps of Snapchat?
This function has been applied in Snapchat for years, the platform not only does not allow taking screenshots of temporary content, but also notifies the person who sends said content, so a policy of total privacy is maintained for users.
While this screenshot blocker is being worked on from what can be seen in the beta version’s source code, the feature hasn’t been fully activated yet, so people with access to it should expect a little more to start testing it.
