WhatsApp has introduced the new security function blocking chatwith which it allows you to move a conversation from the inbox to a folder of your own that can only be accessed with a password or biometric data.
The instant messaging platform already has a function screen lockwith which the application can only be accessed through a password or with the verification of biometric data.
WhatsApp continues to implement ways to protect and ensure the privacy of messages and conversations of the users. And in this sense, the social network has now announced the blocking function of chat.
With this novelty, it allows you to mark conversations as blocked to move them from the main inbox to a folder blocked chats which can only be accessed through a password or biometric data, such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
This has been announced by the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, through a publication on Facebook, in which he points out that it is a way of “make conversations more private.” It also indicates that notifications regarding blocked chats will not show the sender or the content of the message.
As you have explained WhatsApp in a communication, to block a chat, simply press the name of the person or group to access the information screen and, after that, select the ‘Block’ option.
On the other hand, to access these blocked chats, you have to drag the inbox down to reveal the folder of blocked conversations. Once it has appeared, it will be accessible with the selected authentication method.
According to WhatsApp, this chat blocking feature has been designed with those people in mind who, from time to time, have to share their phone with a family member or other people. As well as, occasions in which users do not want other people to be able to see the notifications of “special” chats.
In addition to all this, the platform has indicated that “during the coming months” it will add more options to this function, such as the possibility of blocking conversations on linked devices and creating a personalized password for chats, that is, one that is different from the one it is used to unlock the phone.
