This is the Washington State Working Families Tax Credit, a sales tax refund for low- and moderate-income Washington residents who meet certain requirements.
REFUND AMOUNTS IN WASHINGTON
The refund amount for the Working Families Tax Credit ranges from US$300 to US$1,200, depending on the number of qualifying children and income level. These amounts are reduced based on income thresholds, similar to the federal program. The minimum credit is $50, regardless of the number of qualifying children.
This refund will be available annually and, if you qualify, you can request it each year you file a federal tax return if you meet the eligibility requirements.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO ACCESS THE REFUND OF UP TO US$1,200 IN WASHINGTON?
To receive the Tax Credit for Working Families, these requirements must be met:
- Have a Social Security Number (SSN) or a Valid Taxpayer Personal Identification Number.
- Have lived in Washington for at least 183 days in 2022 (more than half a year). Consult the question and answer for more information.
- Be between 25 and 65 years old. Those who have a qualifying child in 2022 are also eligible.
- Have submitted the federal tax return corresponding to the year 2022.
- Be eligible to apply for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) federal on your 2022 tax return.
HOW TO FILL OUT THE APPLICATION?
To apply for the Working Families Tax Credit Program, you will need the following:
- A copy of your federal tax return that you filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
- Your Social Security Number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), and the dates of birth of you, your spouse, and children.
- Your Washington State driver’s license or identification number (if you have one).
- Your postal and residential address.
- Your bank identification code and account number if you choose direct deposit.
