The world of makeup is exciting (what are they going to tell us, beauty addicts), however, it can also become an exciting profession that can open many doors for us.
Today, perhaps thanks to social networks, we know many professional makeup artists whose names are linked to many celebrities. For this reason, we wanted to know what kind of training we need to get behind the brushes and, with a lot of work, tenacity and, above all, many contacts, to be able to reach the top.
Thus, for example, we have spoken with the professional makeup artist Kenzo Yonekura who tells us that, above all, we have to take into account that “There is no specific course to make up celebritiesbut there is a precise way to make up people”. That’s right, do not hesitate to make us some training recommendations like professional training with big brands like MAC or KRYOLAN. Likewise, it reminds us that there is also Khol School in Madrid, which “they have a very good curriculum and a staff of expert teachers”.
Similarly, it tells us that “It is very interesting to learn with people related to the entertainment world” and, in this sense, he points us, for example, to Lewis Marante or Ana Lozano who was the make-up artist who turned Penelope Cruz into Donatella Versace, among many other works.
On the other hand, we have also spoken with Manuel Cecilio, a professional make-up artist born in Cádiz who moved to Seville when he was only 25 years old, where he began working in a modeling agency and organization of fashion events.
As far as his training is concerned, he tells us that in 2000 he decided to go to Barcelona where he began to study makeup with a french teacher since, for him, it was very important to meet people who had a defined criterion and who, when giving him their opinion on his work, would convey constructive criticism.
After that training he was offered to work for Armani Make Up but he opted for the opportunity to work with Helena Rubinstein and thanks to her collaborations with makeup for fashion shows and magazine editorials, she increased her experience, without neglecting her self-taught training.
In my opinion, I think it is very important have a good base of technical knowledge and have the enthusiasm and desire to continue learning and updating techniques and new makeup products. I like what I do and I feel that mutual trust between the makeup artist and the makeup artist is very important.
Among other personalities and celebrities that have passed through his hands we have Esther Arroyo, Laura Sánchez, Raquel Revuelta, Mª José Suarez, Natalia de Molina, Rosy de Palma, etc. In addition, he has been Eva González’s personal make-up artist in all the editions of ¡Se llama Copla! of Canal Sur and regularly works on the TV programs she hosts.
In any case, other formations that, without a doubt, seem very interesting to us are those given by makeup artists of the stature of Iván Gómez, makeup artist of some great ones such as Úrsula Corberó, María Pedraza and many more, with which we can learn all the tricks to get a perfect outline, among many other things.
In any case, becoming a celebrity makeup artist is not a task that can be done in a single day, it is a matter of training, perseverance, and, why not, also making contacts. What is clear is that there are many courses that we can attend and, if we have the opportunity to go abroad, we will always have the school of Makeup Design (Mud) from New York, the Makeup for Ever Academy in Paris or, also (and among others), the IE School of Professional Makeup in Los Angeles.
