We show you which are the states of the northern country that, they currently practice the death penalty, according to the Center for Research on the Death Penalty.
For decades, one of the most fervent discussions is that of the death penalty, an issue that causes great controversy among society at a global level.
However, in the United States, for some time now, it has begun to be an alternative in a considerable number of states or regions of the so-called American Union.
According to Death Penalty Information Center, capital punishment is provided for in 27 states, although not all of them are applied.
In states such as Oregon, California and Pennsylvania there are various moratoriums in this regard, while in Nevada, Montana, Tennessee and South Carolina governors and courts have decided to officially stop executions.
And it is that, in recent years, various questions have been raised regarding the new drugs used in executions by injection, a fact that led to the search for different alternatives. In response, Southern California returned to the use of the wheelchair and the firing squad.
Secondly, of a group of 20 states, there are eight that, in a period of ten years, have not carried out any executioneither because of the lack of prisoners sentenced to death or because of the lack of adequate medicines.
On the other hand, states such as Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas carried out executions during this year and a year earlier (2021), the last execution in that state took place in Mississippi.
Notably, Colorado, in 2020, was the last state to abolish capital punishment.after New Hampshire, which eliminated its law in 2019.
Similarly, executions were recently suspended in Kentucky, a state that passed a new law that excludes the seriously mentally ill from the death penalty.
