The last episode of the second season of The Mandalorian, which was directed by Peyton Reed, was a favorite with the audience. This chapter had a great surprise: the return of Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill. Luckily, the return of this character was nothing like what we saw in The Last Jedi, something that the actor highlights and fully appreciates.
In the film directed by Rian Johnson, we met a Jedi master who denied the Force and shows the weight of a not easy path. Instead, in the series created by Jon Favreau, we take a time jump to see this character at his peak. Showing us a Luke who is true to his origins and what every Star Wars fan is used to seeing, even Mark Hamill himself.
In this way, the actor was very happy to have returned in the shoes of the Jedi and grateful to have been able to participate in the construction of that moment. To get Mark Hamill’s appearance as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian, the team had to combine two performances: that of the actor and that of the body double Max Lloyd James.
The word of the actor
“I am very grateful to have had the unexpected opportunity to revisit my character when he was still a symbol of hope and optimism. Your steadfast directing and kindness were crucial to the experience and it means more to me than I can say, “ wrote Mark Hamill, praising Reed and referring to the movie The Last Jedi.

This affectionate message from Mark Hamill came in response to the affectionate tweet sent by the director of 2 × 08: “When I was a child, this photo adorned the wall of my bedroom. Star Wars, and Luke Skywalker in particular, meant a lot to me. Some things never change. It was an honor and a dream come true to work with you on The Mandalorian. Thank you ”.
