After M. Night Shyamalan introduced the last airbender (2010), the reception of the film by the public and critics was not good at all. There are many people who think that the premiere of this production represents the lowest point in the career of the prolific director. Even he, over the years, has been more and more critical of his work on that tape.
This learned M. Night Shyamalan with the last airbender
Now, as part of an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to promote his new film, knock at the door, Shyamalan opened up about the lesson he learned from the failure of the infamous project. According to his words, he decided to embark on this journey thinking that he would gain more acceptance from the Hollywood establishment. However, this did not happen and, at this stage of his life, he no longer seeks that. He said so:
“We all go through moments in our lives where we want to be accepted. We get tired of fighting and having to defend who we are. And tacitly, or sometimes openly, they will tell us: ‘You are wrong to do it this way. You are arrogant. If you do this, this and this, everything will work out for you.’ And I thought, ‘Well, maybe they’re right,’ and I made an effort to join the system.”
And he went on to say the following:
“But I learned that the special thing that makes me happy was hard to do within that system. It was wonderful to have that opportunity, but there are a lot of people who know how to tell those kinds of stories much better than I do.”

the last airbender It was harshly criticized for its performances, its script and plot not very understandable, as well as for the way it was directed, which fans of the original did not like very much. Avatar the last Airbender.
Three years later, in 2013, the same thing happened with After Earth, starring Will and Jaden Smith. The critics rained down and they were bad, highlighting the boring story and the little inspiration of the interpretations.
However, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and with his tape The guests (2015), Shyamalan returned to making the cinema that catapulted him to fame, a much more independent cinema, but with enough commercial overtones. Now, he is in complete control of his projects.
