This season of high temperatures is known as dog days, and it is the 40 hottest days of the year. This period is so named because it corresponds to the prominent position of Sirius in the constellation Canis major, and it is also known as intra-festival drought.
The National Meteorological Service indicated that, particularly, this year the thermometer is expected to reach historical degrees, with the most affected states being those of the center, southeast and west of the Mexican Republic. Temperatures, which will exceed 37 degrees Celsius, will be felt in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Mexico State, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Yucatán, Veracruz, Tabasco, among others.
In the presence of the heatwave, experts recommend:
-Keep well hydrated
-Do not expose yourself to long periods in the sun
-Use sunscreen
-Dress light-colored clothes
-Use umbrellas and/or caps
-Avoid eating on the street
-Eat fruit and vegetables
-Wash food well
-Avoid alcoholic beverages
-Do not abuse coffee or products that contain caffeine
-Locate in cool places to avoid the so-called heat stroke
In this season, special attention must be paid to children and older adults, to avoid affecting their health.
