The cold season is accompanied by many respiratory diseases. We tell you how to keep them at bay.
To help your children stay healthy, Dr. Jay L. Hoecker, pediatric specialist and emeritus physician at Mayo Clinic gives us the following recommendations:
- Keep them clean. Teach them to wash their hands very well and to do it frequently. If soap and water are not available, give them an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or wipes. Similarly, keep your toys and common household surfaces clean.
- Get them to cover their mouths. Teach all family members to cough and sneeze into a disposable tissue, which is then thrown in the trash. When a disposable tissue is not within reach, teach them to cough or sneeze inside the elbow.
- Stay away from colds. Whenever possible, help or encourage your children to avoid close contact with anyone who has a cold.
