More than 380,000 kilometers from Earth is one of the most observed, studied, portrayed and, hundreds of thousands of times, given away stars: the moon. Extraordinarily, during August, it can be appreciated on two occasions as a full moon at its maximum splendor.
The moon, companion of the earth at all nights and in its various forms, completes its cycle every 29.5 days, which is made up of four phases and is the result of the sun’s illumination and the changing position of this star.
Rituals around this phenomenon
Beyond the scientific milestone, something that is still curious is that there are people who give an energetic value to this phenomenon. “It is on dates like these that we see an increase in tea sales that are part of rituals to take advantage of nature’s energy and for this reason we have special products for these milestones, such as Blue Moon tea that we only offer in the second full moon of August”, “explains Teresa Marinetti, assistant manager of corporate sales at Adagio Teas.
Other rituals relate the energy of this “blue moon” to luck, which is why it is pointed out that this date would be ideal for rituals such as reading cards, hands or others. A phenomenon that is constantly repeated with the “colored moons” (red, blue, etc.).
Science says it: the blue moon is not blue
Despite not being the color that its name bears, this milestone is special since it will be a supermoon and it will illuminate the sky 16% more than usual. Its size will be larger, being a little closer to orbit, and it can be seen in all corners of the world.
Of course, Chile is not far behind and from 9:35 p.m. on August 30 it can be seen in our skies. It is advisable to stay away from areas contaminated by artificial light, such as busy streets and highly populated places, in order to appreciate it without obstacles that prevent its appreciation.
