With the animated series What if…? of Marvel Studios airing on Disney +, many fans wonder if it will be connected to the movies, and Doctor Strange and the multiverse of madness could have the answer
With countless alternate universes to visit, the movie Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness could possibly be the most interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe project since. Avengers: Endgame.
Elizabeth Olsen’s return as the Scarlet Witch alongside Benedict Cumberbatch was already a sure sign that crossovers abounded, but it seems Marvel Studios has a few aces up its sleeve in secret.
Following the breaking of the sacred timeline on Loki, many wondered if the God of Deception would also venture into unknown universes. It appears that Tom Hiddleston might not be the only Loki to appear, as rumors suggest that Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie could be part of the cast as well.
The sequel to Doctor Strange could even incorporate characters from the MCU animated series, with What If…? It is rumored that Captain Carter will lend her shield for the multiversal adventure, and even some members of Fox’s X-men, such as Wolverine or Professor X could also appear.
Now, a rumor has also surfaced that another army of former Marvel villains will once again take center stage in the MCU with the return of the Ultron Sentinels in the Doctor Strange sequel.
After making his MCU debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and reappear in the series What if…?Ultron Sentinels May Return to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, He Has Learned The Direct. Although this medium has not given much more information except that the Sub-Ultrons will come from a different universe that Stephen Strange visits during his multiverse adventure, could it be the Ultron universe from What if…?
Apart from mentions in projects like Thor: Ragnarok and WandaVision and a brief cameo in Spider-Man: HomecomingSub-Ultrons have been absent from Marvel Studios live-action movies since their debut in the second Avengers movie.
The Sentinels, however, has recently reappeared in the animated series of What If…?, when Infinity Ultron used the power of the Infinity Stones to expand his army to unimaginable levels.
Now, it appears that Ultron’s mechanical minions would finally be returning to a live-action project to take on the Sorcerer Supreme.
Doctor Strange has had experience defending himself against hordes of faceless beings, but he has yet to come face to face with Ultron’s own sentinels. Given that Benedict Cumberbatch’s hero probably only became aware of these machines through the news, it will be interesting to see how Strange deals with this threat.
If Marvel Studios is willing to make use of long-dormant characters for Doctor Strange 2, it leads one to wonder what other heroes and villains from the past could make it into the roster of characters that director Sam Raimi has included.
That said, Marvel still has the opportunity to delve into their archives to create variants of forgotten characters like Laufey or the leader of Tim Blake.
Although to get out of doubt we will still have to wait until March 25, 2022 when Doctor Strange opens in theaters in the multiverse of madness.
