During the last years, the films of Star Wars They faced an unexpected enemy: the possible wear and tear on the franchise. With the mixed reception of the last films of the saga (the last jedi and the rise of skywalker), and the disappointing viewership of some series, many plans around the franchise were put on hold. Among them are the alleged stories developed by Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder), rian johnson (Between knives and secrets) and Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. What has happened to them? Will we really get to see them?
In commemoration of the call Star Wars Celebration, where details of the next projects in the galactic saga were revealed, Kathleen Kennedy, CEO of Lucasfilm, spoke about the status of the aforementioned stories. Will the saga continue to have similar creatives in command?
Taika [Waititi] still working. He is writing the script himself. He really doesn’t want to involve others in that process and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that and that’s what he’s doing. But one day we will do it,” Kennedy told Variety.
It is worth mentioning that, despite having the rejection of certain moviegoers for his work in Thor: Love and ThunderWaititi has an Oscar for writing the screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. With that background, it makes sense that Kennedy would trust his writing skills. Something similar happens in the case of Rian Johnson. Although she received a lot of criticism for the way she developed the last jediIt seems that all is not lost. However, don’t expect the filmmaker to return to the series anytime soon.
“Rian [Johnson] and I talk all the time. He is incredibly busy. So we’re not actively involved in anything at the moment because he’s doing another one of his movies. Glass Onion and God knows what else. But he really wants to step back into space. It’s a big time commitment, so that’s really up to him,” she added.
Unfortunately, things are not looking the same for the movie that Kevin Feige was supposed to develop. Although Waititi and Johnson are still in “we’ll see,” Feige is ruled out, for now, in the franchise’s plans. This Kennedy commented in a later interview for IGN:
“Kevin Feige’s project was announced in the press, or I guess in the fandom. But there was nothing. Nothing ever developed. We never discuss an idea. As everyone knows, Kevin is a huge Star Wars fan, and if he came up with anything, he’d be all ears. But that never really happened. So, it’s not an abandoned project, it just didn’t happen,” he added.
What do you think about Kathleen Kennedy’s statements? Do you think Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson can really flesh out their Star Wars movies, or is the Lucasfilm CEO just stalling the audience?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
