Joe Russo spoke about the future of the MCU and gave his opinion regarding what is happening in the new phase of the franchise. after directing Avengers: Endgame (2018), the director, who along with his brother Anthony shaped several projects for the studio led by Kevin Feige, is taking a break from superhero movies. However, he opened up about the direction things are taking at the M studio.
This Joe Russo said about the future of the MCU and its phase 5
Talking with Radio Times (via The Direct), Russo said that what he did with Marvel was part of a cycle that had to close naturally, so now, according to his words, fans have to be patient. This with the aim that new and fresh stories can continue to be told.
“I think the type of story that played out in the phases that we worked on was a very specific type of story that was covered in those phases and now it’s time for a new story, and I think that’s the direction in which Marvel is heading. They’re telling you a very different story, a very new story and I think audiences just have to be patient with the reorientation because you can’t keep telling the same story over and over again or you lose the audience.”
Likewise, the filmmaker took the opportunity to praise the work done by Feige at the head of the production house. According to what he said, there is no one better in the narrative aspect at the moment:
«There is no one better telling stories than Kevin Feige now. If you’re going to bet on someone, bet on him.

He also mentioned that, with the way things are currently being handled at Marvel, the Disney subsidiary company has everything to win:
“I think they’re taking some very big turns and playing with tone and championing diversity as much as anyone in the storytelling space right now and all of these things are big wins for storytelling on a grand scale.”
Asked if they will one day return to Marvel, Joe Russo clarified that he and his brother treasure the experiences they had working there, but for now they are concentrating on other matters.
“We love them to death, we have had an incredible experience working together, all of us. Right now we are focused on [la compañía productora] AGBO and in all the projects that we have underway at AGBO. It’s been a very busy year for us… there’s a lot going on in our world right now and that’s where our focus is right now.”
