A little over a month has passed since its premiere, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever keep giving something to talk about. This time it is Angela Bassett who opens her heart and talks about what it took to expand the family Black Panther. And it is that new and important characters joined in this sequel, among them, a highly acclaimed villain: Namor, played by the Mexican Tenoch Huerta.
In interview for The Hollywood Reporter, Basset spoke about the painful loss of Chadwick Boseman, star of the first film. Ironically, even though the cast faced the death of their leader, they had to put their best face forward to newcomers to the franchise. The interaction was easier than expected, and it is that everyone was “very open” to work for the tape.
This commented the actress about her Mexican colleague:
“I love all my colleagues. I love young Dominique (Thorne). And then work with Tenoch (Huerta). English is not her first language. I mean, he’s there in his green boxer shorts, and he really has to keep his cool, keep his cool. You just had a lot of compassion for what they had to do, but they were very proud. Tenoch was very emotional at some point.”
The actress, that he could receive an Oscar nomination for his work on that film, pointed out that at the time of filming, the entire cast was going through difficult times. Boseman’s death affected them greatly, but they had to find a way to move on and, above all, include new actors without any distinction. Fortunately, the work was easy and a great team was formed.
“I remember that one day, he (Tenoch Huerta) said what this character was going to represent for his people, for his land, for Mexico and all of Latin America. It was like, “Yeah, we know, dude.” We walk that path. We get it,” he added.
At the end of the day, it could be said that the goal was met and more than met. The performances of Angela Bassett and Tenoch Huerta were the best received of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film, in general, was the best rated in the MCU in 2022, and although it did not reach the box office raised by its predecessor, it managed to be a success for Marvel.
Do you agree with the actress’s words? Do you think that Namor really achieved great representation for Mexico and Latin America?
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the theater up to 7 times. My guilty pleasure? Low budget horror movie.
