Although it may seem like it, not having stayed at your residence at ENARM is not the end of the world. However, when someone does not achieve their goals, deep feelings of anxiety, sadness, shame and anger take over and it is natural. In fact, one could go as far as to say that it is important to feel hurt after failure.
But instead of forcefully repressing these feelings and emotions, use them to your advantage. Instead of feeling bad and wallowing in your own self-pity, use these feelings as your impetus to improve future performance.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO?
Find the root cause of the failure.
Perform an autopsy on your dreams and goals, and discover the root cause of failure. Failure can be so powerful and make you want to give up those dreams. No one would blame you if you did. But it would be a massive betrayal of your passion and personal beliefs. If there is any part of you that still wants your goals to become reality, you should not give up.
So, here is a short list of five things you can do so that you can also take advantage of your situation:
Don’t panic
It is very easy that the first feeling that invades you is despair. Although it is difficult to understand, the disappointment you feel at not having stayed at your residence will pass. It may be a month, three, six or a year, but at some point you will start to feel better.
Avoid locking yourself in your feelings
It is not just a matter of accepting things and understanding that disappointment will soon pass. It is also good that you talk with other people (friends, family, even mental health professionals) about what emotions are going through your head since you found out that you did not enter your residence.
Start studying for the next ENARM
Losing your residency this year does not mean that all is lost. There are always new opportunities in the 2019 exam. Now that you have the experience of this edition, prepare yourself as well as possible so that, this time, you will get the residence of your dreams.
Review your plan B
If you don’t want to wait for ENARM next year, then consider what other plans you had in case you did not get your residency. Perhaps you had jokingly said that you would like to go on a trip, study English in another country, or work to earn some money. Do not discard these options without first turning them around again, this time seriously
Analyze if you can gain experience or knowledge outside of your residence
There is no better teacher than practice. Even if you have not had the result you were looking for in the ENARM, you can start looking for ways to work in the medical specialty of your choice, even if it is only in volunteer work, to make the most of your time before the next ENARM.
REMEMBER:
Learning to fail is a skill like any other, which means it takes practice. Learn to thrive even in the face of your most epic mistakes.
