Ficuses are one of the most popular indoor plants for being very easy to care for and for their decorative power. But sometimes, we see how our ficus begins to lose its leaves without warning. And there can be many reasons that may be causing this loss of leaves.
From the outset, you should know that when a change of season arrives (especially in the transition from autumn to winter and with the arrival of spring), ficuses usually lose their leaves to make way for new leaves and thus prepare for the new season.
When you have to worry about the loss of leaves from your ficus
Apart from the loss of leaves due to the change of season, ficus can lose their leaves if you water them too much. If you give them more water than they need and flood the soil, you will get their roots to rot, the leaves to turn yellow and fall off. If you do not rectify the frequency of irrigation to adapt it to the needs, you can kill the plant.
On the opposite side, lack of irrigation it can also cause leaves to drop. It is also not appropriate to water the ficus with excessively cold water. For your ficus to be strong and beautiful, it is important to always keep the substrate slightly moist, but without flooding the soil.
Being species of tropical origin, Ficus are also very sensitive to lack of light. Therefore, they need a lot of clarity in the place where they are located. If they are in an area without much light, it will lose its leaves. In fact, in the summer months, it is good to take the plant outside to get sunlight.
Ficus are also not friends with drafts, as they dry out the plant. And if your ficus is in an area of constant air currents, you will see how it loses its leaves. This loss of leaves will also occur if the pot of your ficus is too small before its growth, or if you change its location or change the air conditioning in your home.
In this case, the ficus gets stressed and loses its leaves to save resources. Still, new leaves will most likely emerge shortly after the plant has adapted to its new location.
