There are certain differences between a group and a Telegram channel and here we will tell you how to identify them.
Telegram is one of the most used messaging applications of the moment, to the point of having become one of the best alternatives to WhatsApp. The service offers particularly the same functions as the Facebook-owned app, but also provides other options to its users.
In Telegram you can not only have communication with your contacts, but, as a user of this platform, you can join two types of communities: channels and groups. Both are somewhat similar to WhatsApp groups and broadcast lists, but in this article we will tell you how Telegram channels and groups differ.
What is a Telegram channel?
Telegram channels allow you reach easily and convey messages on a large scale and that it can reach each of the subscribers without problems. It is also very easy to search and join them in just a few steps.
Telegram channels do not limit the number of people who can subscribe, however, neither can interact with each other. That is, only the administrator of a Telegram channel will have the option to send one-way messages.
What is a Telegram group?
A Telegram group is like any other group in an instant messaging service. Here, all its members can maintain constant communication with each other and share multimedia files, and only the administrator has the ability to limit and restrict communication between members.
In Telegram the channels and groups can be as public and private as your administrator wishes. To access a public Telegram group or channel you just have to enter its name in the search bar, and you can also share it through a link to invite more people.
Differences between a channel and a Telegram group
Now that we know what a group is and what a Telegram channel is, let’s review some of their main differences:
- Access to fellow member profiles: When it comes to giving information, Telegram channels are more private, since you cannot see their profiles, because they are not displayed. On the other hand, Telegram groups are more public in this sense, regardless of whether or not a contact belongs to your list, they can easily access your profile and vice versa.
- Administrator rights: As an administrator of a Telegram channel or group, you can post, add or remove messages or any member and even cancel the channel at any time. But, an increase in member interaction raises the workload for managers. Both groups and Telegram channels allow you to change their visibility from anonymous to your username and vice versa.
- Access to chat histories: Every member of a Telegram channel will have access to the chat from its creation if they wish, as well as consult information, documents or files. In Telegram groups, new members will also have the option to access old chats, although the administrator has the option of restricting access to this history.
- Membership: Telegram channels have the possibility of having an unlimited number of members who are called followers or subscribers. A Telegram group at the beginning will only have the capacity for 200 people, however, it can be upgraded to a supergroup, and thus obtain a capacity of up to 200,000 members.
- Receive messages or comments: You can receive comments from the community through your Telegram groups, but it is not possible to do so from a channel. That is, you can exchange messages or discuss ideas with the members of your Telegram group, but this is not possible with the subscribers of your channel.
Nevertheless, the platform allows you to link your channel and your Telegram group. Doing this will automatically post messages to your group when they are posted to your channel, so you can have discussions with your audience, listen to or read their comments, and enjoy the rest of the available features.
Both Telegram channels and groups offer a variety of features that streamline communication between family, friends and colleagues. And if you are not yet fully familiar with the platform, here we tell you what Telegram is and how to use it.
