After two years in which basic education students had to pass due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) reported that in five states in Mexico students can already fail their report cards during the 2022-2023 school year.
That said, the SEP had determined not to fail students at the preschool, primary, and secondary levels due to the distance school model derived from the pandemic. However, with the return to normality and the return of all students to face-to-face classrooms, this measure has been canceled on the report card.
Given this new measure, several media reported that now students who study in the following five states will be able to fail and have negative grades on their report card as of December 2022.
What are the states in which students can fail?
- Coahuila
- Tabasco
- zacatecas
- lower california
- Michoacan
Although there are certain guidelines related to grades, for students in the first and second grade of primary school, a minimum evaluation of 6 will be maintained.
For their part, students from third to sixth grade, in addition to students who study in secondary school, will be evaluated on a scale of 5 to 10 in their report card, so they can be failed and repeat the school year.
According to information reported by various media, up to now it has not been defined if Mexico City will re-implement these measures on report cards.
