Slam from Apple to Epic Games. Tim Sweeney, CEO of the company responsible for Fortnite, has received a statement official in which Apple clarifies that the game it will not be published again in the App Store until all resources are exhausted of the judicial sentence.
Epic Games could end in limbo until 2026
No one knows exactly how long that might be, but Sweeney estimates it could be five years. Sweeney recently wrote a letter to Phil Schiller informing him of Epic’s intentions to release Fortnite back to iOS and macOS, something that he also reflected on Twitter.
Not being able to return to the App Store for five years implies lose the opportunity to enter several million dollars, in addition to causing Fortnite fans (it still has a large community of faithful) to stop waiting and definitely adopt other platforms to access the game.
We’re also pending to know if Apple will finally accept the sentence that forces to include links to external payment methods or whether to appeal this decision, which may be one of the causes that the court battle dragged on for several more years. If there is no recourse, Apple is limited to the month of December to implement the ability to add these external links. So at the latest, it will be that month when we have more news about this.
