These experiences and their own spiritual beliefs shaped the main characters and the parents’ story.
“I learned to be more open as a filmmaker. Although all my films are personal, I have always restricted my vulnerability. And with this film I made the decision that it had to feel very vulnerable. It had to be very delicate. In this way, the audience can identify with that vulnerability and get into this world,” said the filmmaker in an exclusive interview for PREMIERE Cinema. “I feel like I learned that it’s okay to insert myself into the world I’m portraying. That doesn’t mean I will do it all the time. It’s very exhausting! But I feel like this way I can relate to the audience and offer them something very personal. That has been something very interesting about this process, that so many people have approached me to share their experiences.”

“I think what has surprised me most is the reaction that the film has generated. Because you can think that what you did is special, but that doesn’t always connect with the public,” Scott told Cine PREMIERE. “It has been extraordinary how deep the connection has been with the public. And seeing those reactions in a cinema surrounded by people, especially given the difficult time the exhibition is going through, has been incredible”
“The film we made is the same one I wanted to make,” added Mescal. “That’s not very common, but my fear was that the film would not live up to my expectations. But every scene is exactly how I imagined it.”
