A few months ago Lucasfilm and Disney announced that they would change the name of Boba Fett’s famous ship for a less offensive one, and today we know it
Star Wars has revealed the new official name for Boba Fett’s spaceship, formerly known as “Slave I” since in the comics there was also a “Slave II “, but that is no longer canon. News that Lucasfilm and Disney were renaming Boba Fett’s ship leaked in June and, needless to say, the announcement caused quite a stir with Star Wars fans, including an actor who played de Boba. Fett who publicly rebuked the studio. Some fans even started a petition to keep the name intact, but it seems it was all to no avail. Boba Fett’s ship has a new official name, and it is “Firespray”. The name was very subtly made official in a press release about the current Star Wars crossover event, “The War of the Bounty Hunters”.
The war of the bounty hunters in Marvel’s Star Wars comic line this summer. The story takes place shortly after Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and centers on Boba Fett trying to bring Han Solo’s carbonite-frozen body to Jabba the Hutt. Unfortunately, Boba is stolen by Solo’s former girlfriend, Qi’ra, who has brought the threat of Crimson Dawn back to the galaxy. What follows is a showdown between the Empire, the galactic crime syndicates, the Rebel Alliance, and every major bounty hunter in between, all fighting to take possession of Han Solo.
Marvel along with this synopsis has presented several variant covers of “Behold the Vehicles of War” (making a big poster) for Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters; one of those variants is Boba Fett and his ship, and in the press release on that cover, the new official name of Slave I appears:
- Bossk and The Hound’s Tooth
- Boba Fett and Firespray
- IG-88 and IG-2000
- Zuckuss and The Mist Hunter
- Valance Beilert and The Broken Wing
- Dengar and The Punishing One
What do you think of the new name and even more that they have changed it? For a server it will always be the Slave.
