Xiaomi, which aims to become the second largest manufacturer in the world in 2021 is beginning to notify its users that it will slow down the charging of their phones in case they do not meet certain conditions that may put the safety of the equipment at risk, and hence, from the user.
According to an analysis by XDA-Developers, the application of My Security installed in the company’s equipment, it is already capable of detecting if the user’s phone has a generic battery that is not certified by the brand.
At the moment the application is only capable of detecting this action on phones such as Mi 9, Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro, and so far it is only being used in China. However, the brand’s warning can also be viewed in English, indicating that there are likely plans to launch this feature in other parts of the world.
The message says the following:
“It appears that you installed an unauthorized battery in your device. The charging power will be reduced to protect your phone. Using unauthorized batteries can result in battery swelling, overheating, or faster draining. Plus, you run the risk of fire and other hazards. Find an authorized service to replace your battery ”.
So far Xiaomi has not revealed how exactly it detects that a battery is not original or certified. In the case of iPhones, Apple achieves this through a microcontroller that only authorized technicians have access to, so the Chinese firm could be using similar technology.
Although at the moment this warning is only displayed on premium phones from the manufacturer, it does not mean that they do not plan to bring it to more devices. The risk of fire due to bad or generic batteries is latent, and like the use of non-certified chargers, they represent a risk for the useful life of your device and your physical integrity.
