Soon we will return to Middle-earth! Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have reached a multi-year agreement with Embracer Group AB’s Middle-Earth Enterprises to work together on new films in the franchise. The Lord of the rings.
The news was revealed this Thursday during an investor meeting by David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. The executive mentioned that Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairmen of Warner Bros. Pictures, negotiated a deal to make “multiple” movies based on JRR Tolkien’s beloved book series. The films will be developed through the New Line Cinema label.
Middle-earth Enterprises has for over four decades owned the exclusive worldwide rights to make films, games, merchandise, and other products derived from certain Tolkein literary works, including Ethe Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Last August, Embracer Group AB bought Middle-earth Enterprises from the late Oscar-winning producer Saul Zaentz.
“Following our recent acquisition of Middle-earth Enterprises, we are delighted to embark on this new collaborative journey with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, bringing the incomparable world of JRR Tolkien back to the big screen in exciting new ways,” said Lee Guinchard, CEO of Freemode. “We understand how appreciated these works are, and working together with our partners at New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures, we plan to honor the past, look to the future and adhere to the highest level of quality and production values.”
