- Warner Bros Discovery has announced its partnership with Eluvio, a Web3 firm, to release “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” as a set of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that will kick off the “WB. move”.
- These NFTs multimedia versions of a limited edition of the film will be a 3 hour and 48 minute 4K UHD extended version of the first film in the trilogy.

Warner Bros. Discovery, company name following AT&T’s acquisition of WarnerMedia and its merger with Discovery, Inc, announced the release of “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Extended Version) Web3 Movie Experience”, a set of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that will kick off the “WB. move”.
These NFTs multimedia versions of a limited edition of the film will be a 3 hour and 48 minute 4K UHD extended version of the first film in the trilogy. Tolkien’s Peter Jacksonover eight hours of bonus footage and commentary, image galleries, and hidden AR collectible assets.
Eluvio Hosted LOTR NFT
Eluvio, a Web3 company, was behind the development of NFTs and hosts them on its own blockchain called Content Fabric, which is compatible with Ethereum.
“The fans of The Lord of the rings now they can purchase, participate and trade in an epic live media experience that is sure to surprise and delight them”said Michelle Munson, CEO and co-founder of Eluvio, according to Vanity Fair.
Furthermore, Munson added that:
“It is designed for a mass consumer audience, not just Web3 enthusiasts…Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is setting a new standard for innovation in home movie distribution by demonstrating the potential of Web3 for consumer engagement, transformation of the digital supply chain and new business opportunities”.
What will the Lord of the Rings NFTs be like?
As reported, there will be two different versions: The Mystery Edition and The Epic Edition.
The Mystery Edition will be priced at $30 US and 10,000 copies will be minted. This includes three interactive navigation menus based on one of the film’s three locations: The Shire, Rivendell, or Mines of Moria, as well as location-specific art and hidden AR collectibles.
While, The Epic Edition will be priced at $100 US dollars and 999 copies will be minted. They also include the three location menus and all the features of the Mystery Edition, plus additional image galleries that were not included in the other edition.

When and where can they be purchased?
The NFTs will be minted on the Eluvio blockchain on Friday, October 21 at 9am PDT/12pm EDT. Fans will be able to purchase them through the official page of “WB. move”.
To acquire the NFTs, people must create a Media Wallet in Eluvio and can buy with credit cards, debit cards or cryptocurrencies. Once the NFT is purchased, it will appear in the Eluvio Media Wallet.
At the time of writing this article, the Epic Edition is already completely sold out.

This is how Warner Bros becomes the first studio to offer feature films as NFTs. In this way, people, instead of buying movies from Amazon or Apple, can buy it directly and have a greater sense of digital ownership.
According to the website, two more Warner Bros-related experiences will be delivered via NFTs “coming soon,” showing the potential the company sees in Web3.
However, this release also reflects Warner Bros’ intention to assess the market and understand if their audience has an appetite for Web3 elements.
