- According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners Walmart+ subscriptions are stagnant in the United States and do not exceed 15 million.
- Amazon Prime, by comparison, has more than 200 million members worldwide, but doesn’t offer numbers by country.
- Walmart’s strategy to add adhesions was launched this Wednesday and is called rewards.
Walmart launches a customer loyalty program called “Rewards” (Rewards), which gives customers cash back for new physical or online purchases.
The rebates are funded by providers who will benefit from the data of consumers who join the program.
Last year, before the launch, Walmart teamed up with Ibottaa mobile technology company that offers cash back to users for shopping at participating stores in the United States.
The new loyalty strategy adds to its Walmart+ membership program offering and is the retailer’s latest response to Amazon Prime, which today offers a combination of free shipping, gas discounts, contactless payments, range offers exclusive and service streaming.
What Walmart Rewards Offers
Now, with the Walmart+ subscription in the United States, you will get cash back in the form of digital rewards that can be used in future purchases in the same retail.
Walmart+ subscribers will be able to search for deals in the retailer’s app on a wide variety of items, including food, household and pet care products, and more.
Once the benefit is obtained, customers can use these “digital coupons” in future purchases at Walmart. Refunds, called “Walmart Rewards” or “Walmart Rewards”accumulate in the wallet (“wallet”) from the company app.
Competition
Unlike its direct competitor’s discount program in the US, Target Circle, Walmart’s is limited to its Walmart+ subscribers and not open to all shoppers.
With Walmart Rewardsthe world’s largest physical retailer seeks encourage customers to sign up for the Walmart membership program and not Amazon, Amazon Prime.
The launch comes just as Amazon Prime is under investigation by the US Federal Trade Commission.
That agency believes that the company Jeff Bezos used manipulated interface designs so that customers signed up for the membership program and then made it difficult for them to cancel.
In parallel, there is a strong debate among Amazon Prime customers about the cost, after recent increases in several markets, such as the US and most of Europe.
Amazon Prime costs $139 per year in the United States, compared to $98 per year for Walmart+. If it’s just used to get the free shipping benefit, many customers might opt for Walmart to save money.
