Porsche has not set a date for the cessation of production of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, two models that will become electric. And although it is already working on them, the manufacturer is encountering high demand that has forced it to pull a Volkswagen factory to increase production.
The new challenge facing Porsche is not easy at all. The German brand already works on replacements for the two models that make up the 718 range, a two-door sports car and a roadster. Both will become electric by the middle of the decade, which is a real challenge as they must, at a minimum, match the records and success of the combustion models, although the goal is to surpass them.
This radical transformation in the technical approach is also having a very important consequence, and that is that Porsche is seeing how the order books of the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are rising as high as the foam. The brand’s customers are still not very convinced of the important change that hangs over these two models, so demand for both has skyrocketed in recent months.

The situation is one of absolute overflow, since the Zuffenhausen factory is at the limit of its capacity optimal production with these two models and the 911, so in order to increase production and not have to stop it, they have sought help at Volkswagen. The German parent company has opened the doors of the Osnabrück factory to the sports car manufacturer, a headquarters considered to be multi-brand, and which is not unknown to Porsche.
The 2012 Boxster was produced at this locationas well as the 2015 Cayenne, together with other illustrious ones such as the Volkswagen Golf Cabrio and the exclusive XL1, also taking care of painting work on the bodies of other models, in addition to the manufacture of the T-Roc Cabrio and the Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake. Experience is not lacking and it is one of the Porsche resources that he has had to resort to exceptionally, although deep down it is something that he does not like.
The German firm has already begun the transfer of necessary tools for the production of the two 718, estimating start of manufacturing from mid-2023. A production that is understood to last until the two new electric ones are announced, of which we already know that will be a reality before the middle of the decade.
