Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin was sympathetic to its competitor Solana (SOL) in a December 30 tweet. He said that “smart people” tell him that Solana has “a serious smart developer community”, and suggested that opportunists who were involved with the project in the past have been “washed clean”.
Buterin also expressed his hope that the community of Solana “gets her fair chance to prosper.”
Some smart people tell me there is an earnest smart developer community in Solana, and now that the awful opportunistic money people have been washed out, the chain has a bright future.
Hard for me to tell from outside, but I hope the community gets its fair chance to thrive

Some smart people tell me there’s a serious smart developer community in Solana, and now that the horrible money-grubbers have been laundered, the chain has a bright future.
It’s hard for me to tell from the outside, but I hope the community gets its chance to thrive.
The price of SOL has fallen more than 90% from its peak, partly due to the coin’s association with the failed FTX exchange. But Solana developers have argued that the FTX collapse did not harm the network itself.
Vitalik’s praise for Solana impressed many in the Twitter cryptocurrency community. Ari Paul of Block Tower Capital produced a thread of tweets arguing that more cryptocurrency companies should follow Vitalik’s lead, as he explained: “This is how someone who is happy to ‘compete’ on merit behaves, and thinks in terms of positive sum. A fun test you can give anyone about almost anything (service providers, fund managers, developers, whatever). be)[…]Ask them about the competition in a positive way.”
However, not everyone was happy with Buterin’s statement. Former poker pro Mike McDonald viewed the statement as a “sign of virtue.”
I normally love Vitalik but this just seems like an infantilizing virtue signal to me. Like does he think Solana devs haven’t heard of Ethereum?

Normally I love Vitalik but this strikes me as an infantilizing virtue mark. Do you think that the developers of Solana have not heard of Ethereum?
Some critics also thought the timing of Buterin’s tweet was suspicious. Would you have praised Solana if she was still doing well?
This is like lebron playing some random high schooler 1v1 and then saying a few nice things when Lebron wins 11-0 and the kid blows out his ACL.

This is like lebron playing a random secondary 1v1 and then saying some nice things when lebron wins 11-0 and the guy tears his ACL.
Solana was once dubbed as an “Ethereum killer”, partly due to its high scalability. But it has also been criticized by some for being too centralized and unstable.
