Despite the constant warning about its use, artificial intelligence is here to stay and as things are going, it will not only be among us, but it will be the one who sets the standards in the development of the coming years, both in the world of technology and in simple everyday life.
Among the concerns generated in recent months, undoubtedly one of the most prominent is the increase in deepfakes. For those of you who still don’t know what we’re talking about, it’s about a method of faking videos and images of people who appear to be real, using unsupervised learning algorithms known as the Generative Antagonistic Network (GAR).
As a result of this, recent data from the World Economic Forum warn that fraud with deepfakes grew at an annual rate of 900%, confirming the hypothesis of how this cybercrime specialized in theft, manipulation of the reputation of an individual or companies and likewise, to promote misinformation.
Challenge to fight deepfakes
– Awareness: It is essential that everyone, from the general public to professionals and companies, understand what it is, how it works and how it can be recognized in some cases.
– Strengthening digital authenticity: Platforms must invest in strong authentication technologies to verify the legitimacy of shared content. Facial and voice recognition algorithms, as well as digital watermarks, can play a crucial role in protecting the integrity of media files.
– Cooperation: Strong partnerships must be established to share knowledge, resources and best practices in the detection and mitigation of this technique. Furthermore, international collaboration is essential to address this global challenge and establish common standards that promote integrity and authenticity in digital media.
– Regulation: In California, for example, laws have already been imposed against the use of deepfakes in matters related to porn content and involving politicians. This shows that governments must work together to establish legal frameworks that penalize the production and dissemination of manipulated materials.
