The physical market improved its numbers in 2021.
The physical market accumulated a total of 882 million euros, of which 353 correspond to hardware, 397 to software and 132 million to accessories. The increases in billing are associated with the measures to relax the restrictions against COVID-19, which has once again encouraged the opening of stores and face-to-face consumption. In addition, they are also due to the consolidation of Nintendo Switch in the market and the arrival of the new generation consoles: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
On the other side of the coin, the online market has decreased slightly in 2021, harvesting 913 million euros, 4.59% less than the previous year. A decrease in consumption on digital platforms is the main reason for the decrease, although the sale of applications has experienced a slight increase of 3.6%, while subscription services for multiplayer services accumulate 77 million euros.
Among the rest of the number to highlight, 6.9 million video games, 1 million game consoles and 3.5 million accessories have been soldplacing consoles once again as the device most used by Spanish gamers (36% of gamers opt for them -27% desktop consoles and 9% portable consoles)-, compared to 27% smartphones (25% in Android and 11% on iOS), 22% on PC and 12% on tablets.
Finally, AEVI has revealed that 2021 has had 18 million gamers, with a significant presence of women players, who represent almost 48% of all users. Regarding the hours of play, the Spaniards dedicated an average of 8.1 hours a week to this activity. Do you consider yourself represented?
