It still takes a good deal of patience to get your hands on a Steam Deck, but Valve announced the increase in unit production a couple of months ago. What will take much longer to arrive is the docking station for the system.
What would become the Steam Deck dock has finally been delayed indefinitely. Through an update on its website, Gabe Newell’s company has indicated that “component shortages and closures in our factories due to COVID” are the main reasons for this delay.
All in all, we don’t have an estimate of when one of the most requested devices for the laptop will arrive. It only points out that “We will share more information as soon as we have it.“While we can rest easy on the production and pre-order windows for the Steam Deck.
Valve clarifies that we are talking “of different components and factories”. The biggest attraction when using this dock is being able to transfer the image to a monitor, being able to use Steam Deck as just another PC. In addition, it includes various USB connections and HDMI ports, although we cannot expect a performance increase, which does happen on the Nintendo Switch.
Valve recently released some easy guides to individually repair your Steam Deck, as well as spare parts to buy. If you are hesitating between the Nintendo console or the portable PC, you can check their differences in our comparison.
