Although the light at the end of the tunnel was very close, Amazon decided that it is best to return until 2022, however, it does not stop seeking to encourage its employees to get vaccinated against the Covid-19 coronavirus by offering them up to $ 500,000.
Recently, one of the most important companies in the world took the first step for one of the most significant delays so far in the technology industry, announcing that it would return to the offices until the beginning of next year.
Given the increase in cases of Covid-19 due to the Delta variant, all the workers of all the corporations of the retail giant will be able to return until next January 3 to the offices, but when doing so it must be with the use of mandatory face masks, unless demonstrate that they are fully vaccinated.
This is a significant step since the vast majority of companies in the sector had planned to return on September 7, but again the coronavirus showed that it has not yet left and may not do so in a long period of time.
Amazon motivates vaccination
With the intention of more and more workers who decide to get vaccinated, Amazon is offering up to $ 500,000, as well as cars and vacation packages to employees who can demonstrate that they have already been immunized against SARS-CoV-2.
Unlike other companies in the industry, such as Netflix and Google, Jeff Bezos’ company seeks to avoid having to require its more than 1.3 million employees to be vaccinated, creating a corporate lottery called Max Your Vax.
According to information from Bloomberg, this measure was announced at the same time as the obligation of workers that as of next August 9 they must wear face masks in their logistics facilities, regardless of the vaccination status, after having been released from this requirement at the end of May this year.
He will be successful?
Within the United States, different companies and the government itself have sought to encourage the population to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, so this is not Amazon’s first strategy to achieve it.
Previously, the company had offered frontline workers up to $ 80 if they were vaccinated. However, their desperation for employees to be immunized also has to do with maintaining the high demand from online shoppers.
“We strongly believe that the best way to protect our employees and front-line communities from Covid-19 is through vaccines,” said Kelly Nantel, a spokesperson for Amazon, in an email retrieved by Bloomberg. “And we are proud to have hosted more than 1,100 on-site vaccination events to help make vaccination as easy as possible for our employees and members of your household.”
It is expected that this contest will offer a total of 18 awards, which the company valued at about $ 2 million, two of them are cash prizes of $ 500,000, six awards are more than $ 100,000, five new vehicles and five vacation packages.
For now, all warehouse and other logistics facility workers, who work part-time at Whole Foods Market and Amazon Fresh grocery stores and Amazon Web Services data centers, can enter the lottery.
Other companies that have bet on lotteries and raffles to attract those who have not been vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2, such is the case of the Hong Kong company, which offered gold bars and a Rolex of diamonds, while a Russian company raffled off a snowmobile.
At a time when the coronavirus is taking over the world again, e-commerce could rebound again, so there is no doubt that the largest company in the sector wants to be prepared for it.
