“Passwords in iCloud” is a Chrome extension for Windows users that allows you to use the same secure Safari passwords that you create from your iPhone, iPad or Mac, but on your Windows PC while visiting websites from Chrome. This extension also saves any new passwords you create in Chrome to your iCloud keychain, so it’s available on your Apple devices as well.
This official extension for the versions of Google Chrome on Windows and Mac allows you to use the same passwords saved in iCloud Keychain, a system developed by Apple that saves, manages and encrypts the keys.
With this new feature, Chrome and iCloud Keychain users will be able to easily switch from a Windows PC to a Mac, since they will have access to their passwords on both operating systems.
The “iCloud Passwords” extension is now available in the Chrome online store. Details of its features were revealed last week in an update for Windows 10’s iCloud app.
Keychain is the password management system for macOS, developed by Apple. It was introduced with Mac OS 8.6 and has been included in all subsequent versions of the operating system, now known as macOS. A keychain can contain several types of data: passwords (for websites, FTP servers, SSH accounts, network shares, wireless networks, workgroup applications, encrypted disk images), private keys, certificates, and secure notes.
