Yesterday at Windows 11 Build 22478 they also had the opportunity to talk about Update Stack Package and we told you what it consists of. This is not a new feature and we have talked in the past. Microsoft has been trying for a long time to decouple the core of the system from functionalities and areas in order to integrate new functions into the system. Now they are presented under the name Update Stack Package.
What is the Update Stack Package and how will it affect us in Windows 11?
Yesterday’s update included some improvements such as the ability to log in with Windows Hello on a secondary monitor or the new emojis, albeit without the promised 3D design. But in this case we have to talk about Stack Package, that package that seeks to offer improvements to the update process without having to wait for the monthly update to arrive.
As already happened in the Feature Experience Packs, we understand that the variant of these packages in Windows 10 is limited to a small part of system files, independent of the rest. In the future this will be expanded to offer more functionalities.
“The Update Stack package will help ensure that your PC has the best chance of successfully installing new updates with the best experience and being the least disruptive”said today’s blog post. These packages will be delivered to Insiders via Windows Update, just like the builds and cumulative updates today.
As of Build 22478 we can begin to receive Stack Packages through Windows Update. Thanks to the work of Mary Jo Foley We know that Service Stacks are used to provide fixes to these components, responsible for installing Windows updates. These contain component information based on Service Stack (CBS), “Which is a key underlying component for various elements of the Windows deployment, such as DISM, SFC, changing Windows features or roles, and repairing components”, according to the documentation of Microsoft.
The most segmented updates
We have many doubts about how they are going to apply this Update Stack Package since the operation seems similar to that of the Feature Experience Packs. The Redmond giant will have to elaborate more on this new package that escapes from Windows Update. The good news is that updates are getting lighter. Dividing into multiple items can eliminate problems and find them when they arise.
By going to the official documentation we have also been able to see how Microsoft refers to its last two operating systems. In this way we know that It will not be an exclusive feature of Windows 11 and we could also see it in Windows 10. This could be considered to be one more division in addition to the Feature Experience Pack. It further segments updates and makes the Windows update process independent. Anyway, we will be attentive to inform you better about it.
