A few years ago, it was common for Disney animated films, whether made on their own or in collaboration with Pixar, to receive event deal. By this we mean that their releases were highly anticipated by the audience, the trailers reflected great interest and the pre-sales, in some cases, were quite successful. Unfortunately, the pandemic and the studio’s habit of sending its films to theaters and streaming simultaneously They ended up damaging their productions. Little by little, Disney has recovered some ground with its projects. And in order to recover its lost glory, it has prepared a large arsenal of premieres for the coming years.
Below, all the confirmed premieres of upcoming animated films from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios:
Inside Out 2 (Dir. Kelsey Mann)
Release date: June 14, 2024.
In 2015 we met Riley Anderse, a 12-year-old teenager who learned to cope with her emotions to know herself and make her first important decisions. Thanks to her brilliant idea and a very solid execution of it, Intensely It became a box office success. But also in one of the best received films in the history of Disney and Pixar.
Almost a decade after causing a sensation among the audience, Riley returns as a young woman and with even more complex emotions than before. Unlike other stories from the company, this sequel achieved the desired effect with its first trailer: generating interest among the audience and reminding the public why they loved the first part. After numerous failures at the box office, both Disney and Pixar need this film. But above all, they need it to be as big a success as its predecessor.
Elio (Dir. Adrián Molina)
Release date: June 13, 2025.
Originally, the film would hit theaters around the world in the first months of 2024. But changes in Disney’s calendar delayed it by more than a year. Elio portrays the story of a boy who travels outside of Earth and encounters a peculiar extraterrestrial race. While the aliens take him to discover what makes him special, Elio tries not to wipe out the planet.
It is striking that Disney removed it from its calendar a few months after its release, but at least there is a positive sign: the Mickey Mouse house put it to compete in the middle of the summer. Will we be facing a new gem from the studio? The direction is by Adrian Molina, who co-directed Coconut and also worked on the script for said film.
toy story 5 (Dir. Pete Docter)
Release date: To be announced
After the brutal success of toy Story 3 (and its Oscar nomination for Best Picture), Disney and Pixar joined forces for a fourth film. Said production became another commercial success, even if many considered it unnecessary. But since the box office was huge, a fifth film is already underway. So far there are no details about the story, new characters or voices, but there is an important statement from Tim Allen, the original voice of Buzz Lightyear.
“Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it would be a fact. In fact, he said it would happen. They have approached Tom (Hanks, voice of Woody) and I about returning to our characters. “They are not going to comment anything else about it,” the actor mentioned in an interview for The Tonight Show.
Frozen 3 and 4
Release date: To be announced
The same thing happened with this franchise as with toy story. When the first movie Frozen hit theaters in 2013, not even Disney executives expected the phenomenon it would become. Millions of girls around the world grew up influenced by Elsa and Anna, which led to a 2019 sequel that, while not as impactful for pop culture, was even higher at the box office. It took no one by surprise that Frozen 3 will be confirmed. But Bob Iger, CEO of Walt Disney Studios, left many in disbelief. shock with a revelation to Good Morning America.
“Well, I’ll give you a little surprise. Frozen 3 is underway, and there could also be a Frozen 4”.
Apparently, both films will be part of a great story, something similar to what happened with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Will it be the right idea or will the public turn their back on the franchise?
Zootopia 2 (Directed by Jared Bush)
Release date: To be announced
Like Frozen, Zootopia became a massive hit at the beginning of 2016. The most striking thing is that it did not have a exactly big premiere, its box office was nourished thanks to word of mouth and exceeded more than $1,000 million dollars. A sequel has been in supposed development for years, but due to the complex animation work, there are no specific details yet. Recently, producer Brad Simonsen offered The Direct a promising statement.
“We are very excited about it. And it’s a world that I was a part of in the first film, it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, to be honest. And I know that the next one will take things to another level and will be, as you know, as good as the first one or better. So we are very excited about the project.”
Juan Jose Cruz I am one of those who always defended Robert Pattinson as Batman and can see the same movie in the cinema up to 7 times. My guilty taste? Low-budget horror films.
