The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) together with climate change entrepreneurs and Cointelegraph delved into the debate on the role of emerging technologies, such as blockchain, in solving global problems, including climate change.
During the DigitalArt4Climate press conference, Cointelegraph Editor-in-Chief Kristina Cornèr took the stage to understand the various blockchain initiatives actively fighting climate change. The conversation starter was Anna Dart, a digital avatar from DigitalArt4Climate who shared the idea of bringing artists together to inspire climate change:
“We are lucky to have the opportunity to influence our world with the transformative power of art and green blockchain technology together.”
As part of the initiative, the finalists’ digital arts will be showcased as clean non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in various UN initiatives related to climate change. Miroslav Polzer, founder and CEO of IAAI and strategic director of the Climate Chain Coalition, took over the conversation by explaining the next phase of the initiative, which is to mobilize resources or funds.
Polzer explained that the sale of the clean NFTs is intended to support the youth-focused United Nations Sustainable Development Goals initiative: 15% of proceeds will go to artists and 35% to the Climate Action Fund. Of the youngs. The remaining 50% will be dedicated to institutional and technological infrastructure for non-stakeholders, including the management of DigitalArt4Climate, the creation of the United Citizens Organization DAO, education, and GloCha’s GoodLifeApp.
Delving into the technicalities of NFTs for climate change, Irina Karagyaur, Director of Ecosystem Growth and BD at Unique Networks, spoke about giving power back to creators and people.
He supported Unique Networks’ decision to build Proof-of-Parking (PoS) NFTs instead of Polkadot, citing the need for a smaller carbon footprint, especially in the fight against climate change:
“In general, the industry is transitioning to PoS to enable climate and ESG initiatives and to improve and reduce energy consumption by 99%.”
Also Dolphine Magero, general director of the Global Youth Climate Action Fund institution, highlighted the importance of including artists who wish to join the global fight against climate change.
According to Karagyaur, minting an NFT at Unique is equivalent to emitting the carbon footprint of a single human breath, which can be used to drive climate action. With a view to mainstream adoption of the technology, Unique Networks launched an open NFT marketplace where artists can mint green NFTs to power various climate change initiatives:
“There is a blue ocean to do good, please contact us, propose your idea and be part of the movement”.
