The unemployment rate in Mexico decreased last November to 2.8% of the economically active population (PEA)a figure 0.2% lower than that of October and lower by 0.8% than the eleventh month of 2021, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) reported this Wednesday.
The unemployed population was 1.7 million people and the Unemployment Rate (TD) was 2.8% of the EAP. Compared to the penultimate month of 2021, the unemployed population decreased by 424,000 people and the TD was lower by 0.8 percentage points,” Inegi indicated in its report.

The EAP for the eleventh month of the year was 60.6 million people aged 15 and overwhich represented a participation rate of 60.8% and an active population greater than 2 million compared to November 2021.
Of the EAP, 58.9 million people were employed during November, 2.4 million more than in the same month a year earlier.
Underemployed people, that is, those who declared having the need and availability to work more hours, there were 4.5 million, 7.6% of the employed population; Y there was a reduction of 1.5 million people compared to November 2021.
Low informality rate
Workers in the informal sector in November totaled 32.5 million. The registry lowered the informality rate to 55.2%, some 0.5 percentage points less than a year earlier.
The employed population by sector of activity was distributed with 43.4% of the total in services; in commerce 19.5%; in the manufacturing industry 16.5%; in agricultural activities 11.6% and in construction 7.4%.
While in “other economic activities”, which include mining, electricity, water and gas supply, 0.8% was employed, and another 0.6% did not specify activity.
By gender, the female EAP in November was 23.9 million and the male 34.9 millionwith an economic participation rate of 46.7% for women of working age and 76.8% for men.
The employment figures reflect the behavior of the Mexican economy, whose gross domestic product (GDP) grew 0.9% quarterly from July to September and 4.3% year-on-year. With this, it accumulates a growth of 2.9% in the first three quarters of 2022.
