Uber officially says goodbye to the face mask and, incidentally, to the Covid-19 with its announcement that there will be flexibility for those users and drivers who do not wish to use said measure.
With the arrival of Uber, it is clear that the way people move, especially in big cities, has changed radically.
In this way, Uber became the platform most used by users. According to data from the consultant The Competitive Intelligence Unit (The CIU), the mobility market in Mexico continues to be led by Uberfollowed by Cabify and DiDi, while Easy Taxi and Beat closed the clamp.
Only in January 2020, shortly before the arrival of the pandemic, Uber led the market with 80 percent of user preference, while Cabify had 14 percent and, further back, DiDi with 4 percent. hundred.
Times have changed and now the competition is much stronger, either with the arrival of new platforms (such as InDriver, Lyft, among others) or with the addition of new features to existing ones, as DiDi did with the inclusion of loans of up to 30 thousand pesos.
The idea, of course, is to cover a new market and, incidentally, add new users. or subscribers to the platforms and that is what, in its own way, Uber is doing.
Uber, Covid-19 and the use of face masks
As is well known, the arrival of the pandemic caused by Covid-19, in March 2020, marked the beginning of one of the most complex periods in history and, without a doubt, one of the most worrying health emergencies in recent times. years.
Currently, throughout the world and since the first wave of infections and deaths from the disease began, 629 million positive cases have been recorded, of which they have died, according to official figuresmore than six million people around the world.
On the other hand, according to information from Our World in DataIn Mexico, just over seven million people have been infected since the start of the emergency, counting more than 330,000 deaths from the virus.
Given the danger of the disease, one of the recommendations was the use of face masks, a measure that many did not accept but that, apparently, was effective.
Uber, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, decided to make the use of masks mandatory for both drivers and users; however, now, in a more relaxed context, this measure will be optional.
“Following the recommendations of public health authorities, the use of face masks on trips with the Uber app is no longer mandatory. It is still important that you take safety precautions while traveling. Therefore, we recommend that you lower the windows to allow air to flow, disinfect your hands before and after the trip, and always cover yourself when you cough or sneeze,” the company said in a statement.
