In 2021, Twitter posted revenue of $5 billion.
The company was bought by businessman Elon Musk.
The social network Twitter has been attracting attention in recent months, especially after the arrival of Elon Musk at its address. Before that is the new announcement of this platform, which reported that it will now allow the media to charge users for reading their articles.
Among the data that exists today about Twitter, it can be mentioned that it is one of the most used platforms in the world, and according to estimates in 2023, the number of monthly users of the social network could exceed 340 million, that is, 50 million more than those registered as of 2019, indicate data from its annual report.
What’s new on Twitter
This Saturday, the owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, announced that from next month the social network will allow the media to charge users to read their articles when they click on the links.
Let’s remember that the also owner of Tesla, had anticipated this month that users could soon offer content subscriptions.
This content includes texts and videos, by charging a percentage.
Now, in his message this Saturday, Musk indicated that he considered that the measure for the media will lead users who do not have “a monthly subscription” to “pay a higher price per article when they want to read only occasionally.”
In this sense, the technological platform indicated that it has been looking for ways to increase its income, so this article monetization initiative will be a “win-win situation for both the media and the public.”
Since Musk took over Twitter, criticism has poured in, he has already launched the Twitter Blue subscription, removing verified accounts for free.
Likewise, among the measures that it applied is to lay off 80 percent of its workforce.
This announcement is very striking, since it comes when Time Magazine reported that it will remove the paid content from its website to return to its free information.
As part of a new Time magazine strategy, it decided to remove its paywall, so that certain content will be free and open.
This information was confirmed by the American media, which confirmed, its executive director, Jessica Sibley, that it will eliminate this restriction from June 1, which forced users to pay a subscription to access certain content.
This information comes, within the framework of the celebration of the 100 years of the American magazine. Let’s remember that the media company had been applying this subscription strategy for 12 years, so they currently have 250,000 digital subscribers, in addition to the 1.3 million print subscribers who receive the magazine physically.
